In our society, most people look at self care as being self-ish but in reality it is an important part of living a healthy lifestyle. It is common, especially for mothers, to put others before themselves. This kind of thing is actually respected in our society and it makes someone a “good mother.” If a mother is not taking proper care of herself then it is hard to serve others to the best of her ability. Overall health has to do with many different factors like a healthy diet, exercise, relaxation time, and doing things you enjoy.
Why is this important?
Taking care of others is rewarding and respected. Taking time for ourselves is often looked at as self-ish but it is really a way of making you a better person to serve others to the best of your ability. An over worked, stressed out, tired person isn”t able to be the best version of herself. It doesn”t allow you to have patience with online casino your children, or employees, or your husband or wife. After you have been on vacation or had a fun day with a friend think about how you feel – calm, relaxed, energized, loving. When your needs are met it is much easier to help meet the needs of others and be the best version of yourself that you can be.
It is common to feel guilty for doing things like this at first. It is easy to think, “right now I should be doing laundry and not taking a walk,” but try to bring the mindset that you are taking care of yourself so that you can better care for others.
Establishing your Needs
For some, it is hard to even think about adding a self care routine into their life because they have always put themselves last. First, take some time to think about things you would like to be doing. What things make you happy? What do you enjoy? What is the best way for you to relieve stress? The answers to these questions will help you to figure out where to start.
Set a Self Care Schedule
Just as your children”s activities or your dog”s appointment at the vet is scheduled on your calender, as should your self care routine. When things are set on the schedule they are more likely to actually happen. If you wrote down yoga as a way for you to relieve stress, your first step is to look up some local classes you would like to try and set it on your calender. Do whatever it takes to make this happen – ask your husband to watch the kids or get a baby sitter. Pre-planning these items will help make them a reality.
Self care has a different definition for each one of us. Taking the time to establish what it is that makes you happy will set you on the right track. What feeds your soul? After you have figured this out it”s all about creating a schedule which eventually turns into pure habit. In caring for yourself, you are caring for your whole family and everyone else around you.
