Why Should Everyone Detox?
“People are chronically more sick and more overweight than they’ve ever been. Those that are not constantly sick or on medication are most likely dealing with some kind of chronic symptom(s). It could be headaches, chronic fatigue, food cravings, dry skin, hair loss (men and women), digestive disorders, weight gain, menstrual irregularities, high blood pressure and cholesterol, diabetes, etc. All of these are caused by not eating the right foods, but also through choosing (consciously or not) to put in and on our bodies excessive amounts of toxins through the wrong foods, skin care products, etc. Food and Industrial manufacturers are always coming out with “new and improved” products that are cheaper to produce, smell better, taste better, work better, all the while claiming to be “natural”, “environmentally safe”, and “generally regarded as safe” by the FDA. The truth is that we are being exposed to more toxins and more synthetic chemicals than ever before. They are literally everywhere. Here are some examples that surprise a lot of people:
- Makeup, gum, chicken, mixed nuts, fuel, margarine, enriched rice and frozen breaded shrimp. (BHT- preservative linked to cancer, respiratory issues, allergies and hyperactivity)
- Shampoos, Perfumes, Shaving cream
- Household Cleaners (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Ammonia)
- Cigarette Smoke, Exhaust
- Mercury Fillings, Arsenic in Brown Rice, Fluoride in toothpaste and water (ruins the thyroid)
- Aluminum in deodorants, aluminum foil (destroys the wrapper around our nerves)
- BPA in can linings and water bottles- hormone disruptor
- Aspartame (Nutrasweet, Equal), Splenda- has chlorine in it!
- Pesticides, Herbicides, Animal Growth Hormones, Antibiotics, GMO’s
- Adhesives, Paint Thinners, Paraffin Candles (Formaldehyde)
- Suntan lotions, Antibacterial soaps (Triclosan)
- Vaccinations (Formaldehyde, Thimerosal, Aluminum, MSG, Hydrochloric Acid)
- Megavitamins (synthetic), medications
Some people think that if they stop using these products or stop eating the junk foods, that their symptoms will just go away, that they’ll lose weight, and go back to their previously healthy selves. But the damage has been done. The liver is full of toxins, our hormones are now completely out of whack, and our bodies are severely nutrient deficient. We have to do some level of rebuilding and repairing, depending on the severity of toxicity and deficiency. For most people, that statement is really overwhelming. They have no idea where to start. They jump from one diet to another trying to lose weight and become healthier, while not really addressing the underlying issues, and then go right back to their old ways of eating.
How Do You Detox Properly?
There are a couple different things to address in a cleanse. If you’ve ever done a detox or looked into doing a detox, you know that there are many different kinds out there. There are herb cleanses, juicing cleanses, and then there’s the super popular Master Cleanse. For the most part, I think these are really great programs. They detox the liver, help heal the stomach from ulcers and lesions, and flush the intestines and colon. But the thing that these cleanses don’t address are hormone balance and toxins that are stored in fat cells. Toxins are what cause weight gain, back pain, and nervous system damage and interference. Because toxins are fat soluble and can’t be flushed out by drinking lots of water, our bodies go into survival mode and pull the toxins into our fat cells in order to keep them away from our vital organs (liver, gall bladder, pancreas, heart, etc). Then, our fat cells bulk up in order to keep them there.
Fiber is super important to detoxing. We’ve all heard a million times that fiber is important, but it is severely undervalued and underappreciated. Fiber doesn’t just help with bowel movement regularity, It binds with toxins and cholesterol and removes them from the body. A natural detoxifier and cholesterol lowerer! I’ve heard a lot of people say that they can’t hang with juicing cleanses. That they’re always hungry, and I’m actually one of them. Fiber is one of the things that helps the stomach to feel full. It also helps food to break down slower, which is great for blood sugar balance.
Sugar is another thing that we all really need to detox from. People’s sugar cravings are becoming worse and worse, and are causing huge damage to the body. It shuts down the immune system, causes yeast overgrowth (which can cause a host of seemingly unrelated issues), bacteria overgrowth オンライン カジノ in the digestive tract, diabetes, heart disease and weight gain. The American diet has become full of carbs and sugar. When we eat those carbohydrates, the pancreas sends out insulin to bring those blood sugar levels down, but if we don’t use that sugar as energy, it’s stored as fat. And even if you do use it, that amount of sugar is detrimental to the body. In order to lose weight, we have to lower our carb intake to trigger the body to make glucagon, a hormone that pulls energy out of our fat stores, which helps with weight loss.
What Detox Do I Recommend?
The detox that I always recommend with my patients is through a company called Standard Process. They make whole food supplements that come from an organic farm in Wisconsin. They are cold processed so that the enzymes, vitamins and minerals. These supplements are full of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, essential fatty acids to keep you going during the 21 day process. They also contain things like Spanish Black Radish (a great liver detoxifier), Choline (lowers cholesterol- also found in eggs!), and buckwheat to help reduce sugar cravings. The list goes on. Days 1-10 you eat organic, raw and steamed fruits and veggies, smoothies made with Standard Process’ complete powder in addition to any fruits and veggies you choose. On day 11 you add in chicken and fish. You won’t be hungry. This is not a calorie-restrictive detox. You eat whenever you’re hungry.
Some things you may experience during the cleanse is headaches, nausea and light headedness. If you drink soda, coffee, energy drinks on a regular basis, your body will go through a detox just from that alone. It all depends on the current status of your liver. Sometimes it does get worse before it gets better, but headaches during a cleanse indicate detoxing, which is good and important.
I recommend cleansing to everyone. There isn’t one person, young or old, that isn’t exposed to toxins every day. If you’re not experiencing symptoms now, a cleanse will help to ensure you never do. So if you want to lose weight, have more energy and focus, have less back pain, digestive issues, etc. detoxing as a really easy way to get started in the right direction. It comes with really clear guidelines, that gets really great results.”
